Chickens, famously toothless, rely on grit to aid their digestion. While humans chew food with their teeth, chickens use grit. Once swallowed, the grit travels to the chicken’s gizzard, a robust, muscular section of the stomach designed to pulverize food. This process is essential as it prevents the food from fermenting and causing illness.

Selecting the appropriate size of flint grit depends on the type of bird:

• 1-2.5mm: Ideal for smaller birds like chicks, quails, pheasants, and ornamental bird species. This fine grit helps young and small birds digest more effectively.

• 4-7mm: Best suited for larger backyard poultry including layers, pullets, and even ducks, ensuring efficient digestion across a variety of bird breeds.
